The major collections of information relating to Whickham are: the Local Studies Collection at Gateshead Central Library. There is a small, but very useful, collection of books relating to Whickham history in Whickham Library (note, most are reference only).

Durham Record Office - very useful for Diocesan records, personal and business correspondence of key families such as the Bowes and Claverings. They have the excellent facility of a searchable Internet catalogue of all their archives, so you can see what they have before you visit - if only other Archive offices could follow their example!
